boats on the charles. a really representative picture for today would've been something to do with the kick ass hedge trimming i did but this is probably more interesting.

Yay, some good news!

So last night I was watching tv and the very end of the show I was watching said something about a pitbull story coming up on the news. Unfortunately it was a show I had previously recorded and by the time I watched it the news was already over. I found the story and was pleasantly surprised. I had assumed it was going to be negative.. but turns out SL County here in Utah is starting a program to improve the public's perception of pitbulls in order to decrease the amount being euthanized in the animal shelter. Also they're offering free spay and neutering to pitbull owners in the area :)

Also, reading the comments to the story someone mentioned people need to visit this community to see some wonderful bullys.. I found that amusing!

Here's the link: http://www.fox13now.com/news/kstu-salt-lake-county-new-program-for-pit-bulls,0,4286788.story

and here's the SLC Animal Services website with the actual press release: http://www.slcoanimalservices.org/

In the next few weeks I will literally be from the top of the US to the bottom.
Tonight I'm driving to Erie just for a couple hours, on the 24th - 30th I'll be in Naples, FL. On Aug 1st I'll be in Washington DC- then back home Aug 2nd.
It's going to be a strange few weeks for me, accompanied by the highest highs and lowest lows.

For now I watch Calliope teach me how to make lunch. It consists of finding hidden food and soaking it in your water bowl until mushy, rinse, shake, eat and repeat.  That bird fascinates me. Sometimes she moves her food to her spoon and eats off the spoon.
Birdy see, birdy do.

So cute!

thoughts right now...

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 2:00 PM
I picked up my soul and sat down here last night....
I read through 2003 and replied to a friend that no longer walks this Earth.
I thanked him and told him he was right in his comment to me - 6 years ago - the year before his death.

It was funny sometimes when I visited his gf who was a dear friend of mine... he'd come staggering home, see me and run like hell. I never understood why he thought or what he thought - but he fled, more than once, from me.

I see his tag around the city still - here and there, it causes me to smirk sometimes that it wasn't painted over or scrubbed off.  I read the poem his mother wrote when he died - about how he was 'perfect' in his imperfection.

So many years ago - I never thought I'd be responding so late - I never thought he'd be awaiting response on the astral plane... but I never saw his reply until yesterday to even respond to.

So many years ago I had no idea how involved I would be - how much passion I would carry and how the weight of my love and passion could weigh me down -- quite dangerously. It can be detrimental to one's health to carry so much love.

But to carry so much love can be rewarding. It opens doors.

Today I sit and ponder over the softness inside, and I wonder how I can have so much rage sometimes, yet be so full of love?

Today I sit and think about how short life really is....

you know, one of the best things about owning a pit bull that i never imagined would be, nor did i think i'd ever grow to love it so much?

my mornings... or naps... or evenings )

lol, who else loves/has this with their furry ones?  does it melt your heart like it does mine everyday?

THEME WEEK: Mannie's Tail

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 9:21 AM

*Theme Week "Tails" Dutchess*

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 10:14 AM
Dutchess lays "frog legged" quite a bit and I debated entering one of those pictures but it just didn't really show the essence of her little "half tail".

Dutchy has a tail that is literally half the length of Georgia's and curls up into a little question mark. As a bonus, the tip of her tail has hairs about an inch to 1 1/2 inches long that make a cute little white tip. A lot of pitties I've encountered/fostered have had this extra hair at the tips of their tails and I know like 1/2 the pitties have big thick crazy tails like Georgia, and the others have these wimpy tails- it's so weird all the different sizes and shapes of this breed:) I love it.

1 more to show the tip and her butt fluff when she hears those nasty neighboring pomeranians )

Dog walkers

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 9:59 AM
I had a job interview last night and it seems promising. Problem is, my hours will almost double, and my boyfriend currently works long hours as well.

I'd like to hire someone to come over and at least let Howie out of his crate to go potty and maybe take him for a walk around the block once a day.I have never had to "interview" for this type of thing before, and am slightly nervous about letting someone into my home. I do have one friend I am hoping to ask and will be, but in case she can't, I need to keep this option open. I wish I knew our neighbors better, too. I also plan on calling up to the place where he goes to daycare/boarding once in awhile and asking if they can recommend anyone.

But, does anyone have any tips for hiring a dog-walker?

Intro Post

  • Jul. 9th, 2009 at 11:13 PM
Hello all! Just joined, so thought I'd introduce myself and the gang.

The name's Joe. Worked as a dog trainer at a major chain until just recently, now working at a dog daycare and doing pet sitting/dog walking for the same company outside of the daycare.

My pack consists of Lilly (1), Leilei (4ish), and a Cocker named Warren (also 4). The pics might be kinda big, so I put them behind a cut.

I feel...

like such a bad mom! -__-

Some how Petey has caught ringworm from the look of it. Gosh I try to be careful as possible, but some S.P.O. neighbors let their dogs wonder in our yard and other things. Its mostly on his bits and pieces and his front legs. Is there a relief I can give him until his appointment Tuesday? (That was the soonest appointment available and I tried multiple places so no bashing please) Also, how can I disinfect the yard so he doesn't catch it again and it doesn't get spread around? Thanks!
